PEACE EDUCATION IN ACTION: CREATING SUSTAINABLE FUTURES (PEACE ACT)

What does it mean to build peace in a world that feels increasingly divided?

Every day, we are surrounded by news of wars, conflicts, social tensions, and growing uncertainty. It is becoming harder to maintain hope for a better future, while at the same time there is less and less space for open dialogue, listening, and understanding different perspectives.

This is why, in November 2024, together with the Estonian organisation MTÜ Mondo, we launched the international project Peace Education in Action: Creating Sustainable Futures (PeaceACT), supported by the European Union through the Erasmus+ programme.

The project brings together organisations from Estonia, Finland, Georgia, and Slovenia with one shared goal: to create communities where peace, dialogue, empathy, and cooperation can thrive again.

zakaj Peace ACT?

Today’s social challenges often stem from fear, polarisation, misunderstanding, and feelings of helplessness. PeaceACT seeks to respond to these challenges — not through naive optimism, but by strengthening inner resources, critical thinking, and the capacity for cooperation.

We believe that peace is not something that simply happens on its own. It is a skill. It is a practice. And above all, it is something we can build together.

The project promotes peace education among youth workers and young people while strengthening their competences in:

  • encouraging dialogue,
  • active listening,
  • peaceful conflict resolution or prevenetion of conflicts,
  • inclusion of diverse groups,
  • strengthening democracy and social cohesion in local communities.

kaj bomo počeli?

Throughout the duration of the project, we will develop innovative approaches to peace education through:

  • international training courses,
  • local educational programmes,
  • interactive workshops,
  • activities in educational institutions,
  • peace actions in urban environments,
  • collaboration with young people and local communities.

A special focus is placed on creating spaces where young people can learn cooperation, empathy, respect, and active citizenship.

The project will also include training programmes such as Democracy Fitness and Future Coaching, helping young people and youth workers develop resilience, critical thinking, and hope for the future.

Peace is not a distant idea. It begins in everyday conversations, in the way we listen to one another, and in our willingness to cooperate despite differences. Through PeaceACT, we aim to co-create communities that are more inclusive, resilient, and filled with hope for the future.

This project is supported by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
